Select tool

A simple question from a fairly new user of TSRE5.
Once an obJect has been placed or moved, how does one "deselect" it? The only way I can do this is by double-clicking the select button again, then clicking on a spare area of screen (to avoid accidentally selecting another object). I can't find any info to clarify this. Am I missing something?

You don't have to double click select button. Just click on the sky/terrain when select mode is active.

Also, there is no great need to deselect objects.
